This entry is especially dedicated to a new fresh friend JSM who knows a lot about this subject and hope to hear from him soon with some interesting comments. I thank you JSM in advance!
First of all, Catalan architect Oriol Bohigas interviewed by Xavi Coral at "Divendres" Tv3 show. Don't miss it! (Nov. 2009)
I would like to write you down some of the most interesting data I learnt today about the contemporary architecture in Barcelona. According to my notes, the areas the contemporary architecture in Barcelona concentrates in are:
- Muntanya de Montjuïch.
- Raval.
- Pça. de les Glòries Catalanes.
- Vila Olímpica.
All over these areas we can admire the following buildings/monuments:
- Mies van der Rohe German Pavilion built on 1929 for the Barcelona Intl. Exposition.
Did you recognize them? |
- Joan Miró Foundation by Josep Lluís Sert.
- The MACBA at the Raval district by Richard Meier.
- The CCCB at the same district.
- The TNC at Pça. de les Arts by Ricard Bofill.
- L'Auditori at C. Lepant by Rafael Moneo.
- The Palau Sant Jordi at the Olympic Area by Arata Isozaki.
- Communication Towers: one at the Olympic Area by Santiago Calatrava and the other at the Collserola hill by Norman Foster.
- The bridge located at the Bac de Roda district by Santiago Calatrava.
- Arts Hotel and Mapfre Tower both at the Olympic Villa.
- Agbar Tower by Jean Nouvel at the Pça. de les Glòries Catalanes.
- The improvement of the ancient Mercat de Santa Caterina by Ricard Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.
I am quite sure I am forgetting or ignoring some other relevant buildings. So that, please, go ahead and let me know them by writing me back some comments!
Your help will be more than appreciated. See you soon!

Last EDITION/ADDITION (Oct. 15)!
JSM has told me that there is a new, revolutionary building in the city! It is called Media-Tic building by Enric Ruiz Geli. Here below you have a video that shows the construction process:
Hi
ResponEliminaYou maybe don't know, the Santa Caterina Market it's an unfinished work.In the initial project the roof should cover all the street in the front of the market, but the Mayor Office suspends this works with no explanation and never be finished with the original project of the architects.
Expect enjoy this information.
Best regards
Ovidio
Hello Ovi! First of all, let me thank you for your contribution.
ResponEliminaI never heard that the cover of the market should be recovering not only the market itself but also the street. Instead of the final result, your story really makes sense to me. See yaaa!
Hola Xavier
EliminaA reveure.
